The Bonham sound was so unique and heavy, like he was using sledgehammers! Bonham and Alex Van Halen had the most unique sounding drums ever.

Many thanks for this video... very helpful. In your "Beato Book" you label secondary dominants (pgs. 24-25) as A - V/ii, B - V/iii, D - V/V, and E - V/vi, but in the video it's A - VI, B - VII, D - II, E - III. Seems like calling them major sixth, major seventh, etc. is easier. Is there a quick explanation for the difference? Or, maybe I'm missing something Thanks!

I suspect this happens often, just not with a high-profile artist. If memory serves, the Stones were in a similar situation with their song "Anybody Seen My Baby," which nicked k.d. lang's "Constant Craving" closely enough that Mick and Keith needed to share the writing credit.

Hi. I just subbed. Do you also listen to the R & B lists? I like SZA. I saw your reaction to the chords in her song. That’s pretty usual in soul/R&B. Would love to hear more of your reaction. I will go and look at your other videos.

The spread triad thing is interesting and something I haven't gotten into at all. They sound good. There's a few relatively simple points I wish I'd been taught way back when which I feel would have helped; Nashville numbering system, understanding basic song structures (how many songs are some variation on a I IV V) and why it's that way, relationship between major and minor keys, urged to start singing early, just to name a few.

Tom Scholz's sound is totally recognizable and unique, but I don't know if it's because of his genius as an engineer and the gear that he invented or the fact that all his performances with Boston have been heard so many times over the last 40-45 years that you can't separate the two. Boston=Scholz; Scholz=Boston. Dickie Betts is another player who is instantly recognizable who doesn't get mentioned much. Perhaps for the same reason as Tom Scholz in that he is so closely associated with the Allman Brothers Band.

Rick!! I actually really dig this song. The vocal has a tone I’m not crazy about but still a super solid vocal track with nice harmonies. The acoustic guitars sound nice with a cool progression. Distortion is rocking and makes the track come alive. Ahhh Bass! Great thick sound and the simple solo makes the song unique. What can I say about the drums? They sound just as fresh and solid as the other instruments. Sure I get what you’re saying about the song not being radio or just basic but if you compare what’s coming out today in rock n roll/alternative I enjoy listening to this song and it harkens back to when playing your instrument was more important than how fancy/technical you are. It’s about live organic music that takes heart to create. Hats off to you and the fellows involved.

There is one section of the chorus that sounds exactly like Whitney Houston's song "The greatest love of all, starting with "I decided long ago...." and Gordon's starting with "I never....". Not sure if there was a copyright infringement battle about it, but since it's only a small piece maybe nothing would come from it. Opinions?

I've spoken to two people who saw the Cars in concert during their heyday, and both said without doubt that it was the worst concert they had ever been too...that they sounded horrible live. I've watched a couple of videos of them live, and they don't sound that bad! Anyone else see them live? The 1 and 3 switch of the snare was probably their nod to Reggae during those days when the Police were channeling Reggae in their music.

Was recently watching the Who live at the Isle of Wight where they were in top form and gave a peak performance. The Tommy medley is brilliant! It's always so fun to watch Pete and Moon the Loon interact onstage! Enough can never be said about this band in its original form! They flipped the entire concept on its head, and thank god they did! More, please, Rick!
